Nice once again suffered a heavy defeat away against Dijon (3-0) on the 24th day of the championship. The Aiglons are ranked 19th in the standings, tied on points with Sochaux, the last in the league.

OGC Nice once again showed nothing this evening. Despite a good performance last week against PSG, Renรฉ Marsiglia’s men were largely outplayed last night by a Dijon team that wanted it more. While Patrice Carteron’s team enjoys much-needed relief in the race to avoid relegation, everything is going wrong for the club from the Cรดte d’Azur, which definitely can’t manage anything away from home.
One-sided match
After the first quarter hour favored Nice, Dijon regained control of the match… and kept it until the end. Following a somewhat too mild half-volley from Anthony Mounier (31st), the Burgundians confirmed their good moves just before halftime with an excellent one-two between Jovial and Kakuta. The new recruit on loan from Chelsea attempted a strike from the edge of the box, giving his team the lead (43rd).
Returning from the locker room, there was no reaction from the Aiglons and Dijon took advantage. Kakuta, again, perfectly set up Jovial with a deep pass. The striker found himself alone against the Colombian goalkeeper and expertly chipped the ball. 2-0 for Dijon after 53 minutes of play. The Dijon players would later secure the scoreline towards the end of the match thanks to Konรฉ, who was also well served by Guerbert. Alone against Ospina, he also chipped the ball, beating Ospina for the third time, who could not make a decisive save tonight.
No changes at the bottom of the standings
The situation at OGC Nice worsens as Renato Civelli’s teammates now stand at 19th place in Ligue 1. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for the Aiglons, most of the direct competition for survival only gained a point as well, illustrated by the draws between Brest and Ajaccio, Caen and Evian, and Auxerre and Sochaux.
In the next round, Nice will host Caen at Stade du Ray.
