He passed away in his hometown of Bellona, in the Naples region.
An emblematic and essential figure in the art world, he was the son-in-law of Miche Sapone, the “tailor” for Picasso and many other world-renowned artists, who had initiated the family’s artistic activities.
The replica, six meters high, of Michelangelo’s David, belonging to Antonio Sapone’s private collection, is displayed on the Promenade du Paillon.
Antonio Sapone had withdrawn from business for several years. His daughter Paola will continue the family tradition.
