The land of hospitality and culture, the Alpes-Maritimes has a history rooted in the origins of the oldest civilizations of humanity. Discover or rediscover this summer, the Departmental Museum of Wonders in Tende.

Located in the Mercantour massif, Mount Bego is one of the most fabulous testimonies of this immense past, which has fortunately been preserved to this day.

At the foot of the Valley of Wonders, one of the most important rock engraving sites in Europe just 80 km from Nice, it contributes to the protection of this exceptional heritage. It is a privileged place for the conservation, research, and exhibition of knowledge gathered by researchers.

To preserve this invaluable heritage and facilitate public access, the General Council opened the Museum of Wonders in Tende in 1996, entirely dedicated to it.

Equipped with the latest technologies, this venue pays tribute to the remarkable research work accomplished over a century by scientists; and especially over the past 30 years by the multidisciplinary teams of Professor Henry de Lumley.

Eric Ciotti, president of the CG 06, is a fervent supporter: “We owe this success in large part to the work and commitment of a passionate team who, from the very first day of opening, has skillfully and generously shared their archaeological knowledge of our origins with the largest audience. I invite you therefore to dive into, in the span of a visit, the discovery of a surprising adventure, sometimes mysterious, but always fascinating: that of mankind for the past 5,000 years.”

In ten years, more than 200,000 visitors from around the world have come to admire this place where natural and historical riches offer a dazzling return to the roots.

Proof, if it were needed, that this large-scale cultural development project brings exceptional tourist and economic vitality to the Roya Valley.
