The Nice Jazz Festival 2024 edition begins this Thursday! For this new season, the festival will not be limited to Nice’s stages. Until next August 25th, the streets and squares of 12 communes in the Metropolis will transform into open stages, where talented artists and enthusiastic festival-goers will mingle. Alongside this event, the festival offers a multitude of free concerts and shows.
Nice Comes Alive to the Rhythm of Jazz
From August 8 to 21, Steve Villa-Massone and his red piano will bring music to the emblematic squares of Nice:
โ August 8 at 6 PM: Place Massรฉna
โ August 9 at 6 PM: Place Magenta
โ August 19 at 7 PM: Place du Pin
โ August 20 at 7 PM: Place Rossetti
โ August 21 at 7 PM: Promenade des Anglais.
Moreover, on August 17, in Nice, Parc Chambrun will host a โCandlelightโ concert. Followed at 8:30 PM by a tribute to Louis Armstrong. Then, at 10 PM, another tribute to Nina Simone.
Subsequently, Wasia Project, a family story between William G. Hardy the brother, and Olivia Hardy the sister, will take the stage of the Festival on Tuesday, August 20 at 8 PM at Massรฉna.
August 20 also marks the start of the festival’s grand evenings, running until August 23. Featuring big names such as Julien Granel, Jungle, Phoenix, and Monty Alexander, with concerts around Place Massรฉna and the Thรฉรขtre de Verdure.
Finally, to close the festival, from August 23 to 25, the โBruits de Cuisineโ will enchant Nice, La Gaude, Gilette, Utelle, and Duranus. Dressed as chefs, these atypical musicians will bring a delicious final touch to this edition.
Chords from the Mountains…
Indeed, this year, the festival extends beyond Nice to some neighboring communes.
Thus, from August 17 to 23, the company โLa Toupineโ will present its show โLe Pianoteurโ. On August 17 at 6 PM, the streets of Clans will resonate with Caribbean rhythms. Meanwhile, in Saint-รtienne-de-Tinรฉe, on the 17th at 9 PM, magic will happen on the church square. The following day, Chรขteauneuf-Villevieille will host this same musical parade at 2 PM and 4 PM on Place de la Madone.
…to the Sea
The Mediterranean landscape is fully represented. Moreover, after the mountains, it’s off to the sea.
On one hand, on August 18, Saint-Laurent-du-Var and its night market will be adorned with jazz notes from 8 PM to 10 PM.
On the other hand, at the same day and time, Villefranche-sur-Mer will be the setting for a memorable concert, where meringue, rocksteady, and calypso will blend with jazz standards.
