This weekend, events that occurred in the capital of the Cรดte d’Azur prompted authorities and public figures to make decisions.
On Saturday evening in the Moulins neighborhood, a man in his twenties was the victim of an execution. The Nice prosecutor’s office announced that eight shell casings were found at the scene. A revenge motive is being considered.
On Sunday, a knife fight in l’Ariane resulted in three injuries, including one minor.
Following these events, two prominent figures from the Cรดte d’Azur’s political scene immediately called for additional resources. The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, tweeted that he requested reinforcements from the Interior Minister Gรฉrald Darmanin and the prefect of the 06 Bernard Gonzalez to ensure security in the neighborhoods.
This request from Christian Estrosi was accepted. The prefecture announced that โthe Interior Minister demanded a strong response for the Moulins. The resources of the internal security forces are mobilized to ensure public order and maintain the residents’ tranquility.โ The mayor of Nice detailed this information by explaining that an additional CRS company was dispatched.
Eric Ciotti also took action against violence in the southwestern neighborhood of the capital of the Cรดte d’Azur. On Monday, together with Christelle D’Intorni, deputy of the 5th district of the Alpes-Maritimes, he met with the national police officers of the Moulins station to โaffirm our support and inform them of our actions to restore order in Nice.โ According to a tweet from the official, โthe police confirmed an increase in crime in the Moulins neighborhood.โ
He stated that โThe situation is seriousโ and the tally of violence in Nice โjust for the month of Julyโ stands at 14 injured by stabbing, 1 injured by gunshot, and 60 injured following brawls.
For Eric Ciotti, the reinforcements sent by the Prefecture and the State are not sufficient and more robust and anticipatory actions need to be implemented.
