The Charles Nègre Photography Museum showcases the works of the renowned photographer until January 28, 2024.
The child from the Parisian suburbs is now recognized as one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. Robert Doisneau made a significant impact when, in the aftermath of World War II, he offered enchanting photographs of the streets of Paris. As a street photographer, he captured what he called “the ordinary gestures of ordinary people in ordinary situations”. Indeed, his entire body of work is based on the idea that the sublime resides in the minuscule.
The exhibition at the Charles Nègre Museum brings together more than a hundred photographs by the artist. On the ground floor, you can (re)discover his black and white photographs from the post-war period. The iconic “Kiss by the Hôtel de Ville” (1950) proudly stands among other snapshots of daily life in Paris. Upstairs, photography transitions to color. Entitled Palm Springs 1960, this series comes from a report conducted for Fortune magazine on the construction of golf courses in the heart of the Colorado desert.
Finally, this exhibition available until January 28 was developed in partnership with the Atelier Robert Doisneau.
