Donations to associations decreased by 4.2% in value last year according to the annual barometer of France Generosities. This is a first since its creation in 2008.
This negative trend, derived from the observation of 22 associations and foundations, is not exhaustive but serves as a relevant indicator pending the aggregate global data that will be compiled in several months.
These latest indicators are particularly disappointing given that between 2013 and 2017 the trend was the opposite, with a consistent increase of 9%. “It’s a real rupture,” warns Nolwenn Poupon, noting that this decline is a first since the establishment of the France Generosities barometer in 2008.
Although the amount of donations has decreased, their number remains stable, with a 94% retention rate.
The only exception is nature and animal protection associations, which are far less affected by the phenomenon. For example, Greenpeace, which relies 95% on donations, is experiencing a growth of 10%, and WWF shows an increase of 5%.
