Drought alert: measures to adopt and … observe!

Latest News

The Alpes-Maritimes have been placed under a “drought” ALERT status, which requires certain recommendations for users (reduce street and sidewalk cleaning to the strict necessary for sanitation, reduce domestic water consumption, restrict secondary uses: car washing, exterior washing, prioritize nighttime watering of green spaces…).

With the month of July being marked by a lack of precipitation and very high temperatures, the hydrological situation of the main watercourses in the department requires, as of today, an update of the restriction measures concerning water withdrawals and usage.

The Prefecture’s “drought” Committee has taken “reinforced alert” measures impacting the following seven watersheds: the Roya, the Brague, the Loup, the Alpine basin of the Var, the Estรฉron, the Paillon, and the Cagne, which aim to:

– prohibit lawn watering at any time,
– prohibit watering from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. of stadiums and sports grounds of all types, as well as floral displays, trees and shrubs, and vegetable gardens,
– prohibit vehicle washing outside of car wash stations except for vehicles with regulatory obligations and for organizations related to security,
– prohibit street and sidewalk washing unless for sanitary reasons,
– prohibit washing boat hulls and decks outside of professional stations,
– regarding golf courses, reduce water volumes by at least 60% by prohibiting the watering of fairways 7 days a week,
– concerning swimming pools, filling (with a total volume greater than 10 mยณ) is subject to written authorization from the mayor.
