For many years, the City of Nice has been multiplying efforts to promote the duty of remembrance and citizenship education, particularly in schools, in collaboration with the Association for the Memory of Jewish Children Deported from the Alpes-Maritimes (A.M.E.J.D.A.M.). Indeed, seven school groups in Nice had among their students Jewish children who were deported and did not return: Fouont Cauda, Auber, Mantรฉga, Baumettes, Saint Pierre dโArรจne, Saint Philippe, and the Port.
This year, nearly 450 fifth-grade students in Nice are benefiting from the testimonies of people from Nice who were troubled as Jewish students during this dark period.
On Tuesday, November 19th, Roger Wolman, a former student of Fouont Cauda, will share his story with the students.
As part of this work of remembrance, the students will also attend screenings at the cinematheque on the upcoming December 2nd and 3rd of the film “A Bag of Marbles” by Christian Duguay. This film, partly shot in Nice and adapted from the eponymous novel by Joseph Joffo, recounts the journey of two Jewish brothers trying to escape deportation.
