Latest News

Tonight it’s Rock on the agenda of Crazy Week with The Kitchies, Skip The Use, and Dionysos who will be part of a night that, without a doubt, will bring sound for the delight of fans of the genre. After two incredible opening nights, Crazy Week is truly establishing itself as one of the most talented festivals on the French Riviera.

dyonisos.jpg How to summarize 19 years of career in a few wordsโ€ฆ Seven studio albums, two live albums, two compilations, countless collaborations, three books later and soon a movie on our screens. The least we can say is that DIONYSOS has not been idle! Led by the flamboyant Mathias Malzieu, the prolific yet discreet band is back on stage after a three-year absence.

Since their first concert in 1993 in Valence, Dionysos has showcased its talent through an expression of a dream-like universe filled with monsters and supernatural creatures. At the crossroads of worlds, between that of Tim Burton and Roald Dahl, Mathias Malzieu created, with his (feather) pen, a magical world from which you will not emerge unscathed. Since the legendary “Song for a Jedi” that marked a whole generation, Dionysos has written hits as funny as they are melodic, like “Tes lacets sont des fรฉes” or “Don Diego 2000”. Mathias Malzieu, Olivia Ruizโ€™s partner in life, is also the one behind some of the delicious songs on the album “La femme chocolat”, which propelled his partner to the top of the album sales charts.

In 2008, nominated twice at the Victoires de la Musique, Dionysos left empty-handed but left an indelible memory on the spectators (and on Nagui who saw a frenzied Mathias Malzieu jump on his desk). In short, Dionysos is more than a band, itโ€™s a musical universe, a stage concept, and a desire to share.
Since their essential album “La Mรฉcanique du Coeur” in 2007, we all eagerly awaited their great return. And here it is, finally. Birdโ€™nโ€™roll. Itโ€™s not just Dionysos’s seventh album. Itโ€™s a concept, a song, and a dance: the bird rock. As Mathias explains: “Itโ€™s a dance between rockโ€™nโ€™roll and the flapping of bird wings, generating sensations of pleasure to combat many ills.” For those looking for an illustration, feel free to watch the Cloudman clip. You will witness the impressive transformation of Mathias Malzieu into a bird-man and a great moment of feathered rockโ€™nโ€™roll, between rock and wing flaps. The dance has won many fans, as on March 26, the day of the album’s release, the band premiered their album at the Trianon. The concert was broadcast live on SFR live, bringing together over 67,000 online spectators. Between frenetic rock, red feathers, and the famous Birdโ€™nโ€™roll dance, all the spectators were captivated, ready to take flight for more adventures with Dionysos.

The press talks about itโ€ฆ

“With wild fantasy and coherence, Dionysos at the most epic bounds of its universe, in a land without fences where rock, hip-hop, old blues, dancehall songs, and film music frolic freely.” (Les Inrocks)

“The many contributors help blur Dionysos’s identity and make it tip towards French chanson, while transforming the album into a kind of compilation with guests.” (Rockโ€™nโ€™folk)

“The Best French live band.” (Le Nouvel Observateur)
