The Marine World Discovery Center will be involved in Antibes until 07/26 and in Villefranche-sur-Mer until August 12. With 35 million annual tourists, the Provence โ€“ Alps โ€“ Cรดte d’Azur region is on a roll. As a top tourist destination, the Mediterranean is a victim of its success: increased waste, degradation of the marine environment, and its diversity…

The Ecogestes Mรฉditerranรฉe campaign mobilizes 48 ambassadors along the coast, from Nice to Martigues, and raises awareness among boaters directly at sea. The goal of our approach is to provide vacationers with the tools needed to protect this highly prized coastline.

The campaign is directly aimed at sea users: it is an exchange about their practices and about preservation gestures for the marine environment to move towards more “sustainable” boating.

The ambassadors conduct an interview and offer boaters an assessment of their actions. If the boaters commit to improving or starting one or more eco-friendly actions, they become active participants and receive a practical guide as well as a pennant to place on their boat. The pennant is a symbol of their commitment.

During a day of intervention, 8 to 12 boats are approached, which is about twenty people in total.

The results:
– 8,500 boats approached since 2006
– 23,000 boaters made aware at sea since 2006
– 96% of boaters encountered in 2009 committed to 1 to 3 actions respectful of the marine environment.
