Ecology: The Carol Parks of Romania and Castel des Deux Rois in the City of Nice Receive the EcoJardin Label

Latest News

Since 2012, the national EcoJardin label has been awarded to sites that meet the standards of the labeling committee. At the end of June, it was the turn of Carol Park in Romania and Castel des Deux Rois in Nice to receive this prestigious accolade.

As part of the national biodiversity strategy supported by the Ecophyto 2018 Plan, technical and scientific organizations such as Plante&Citรฉ and Natureparif promote ecological management practices for green spaces. In this context, the EcoJardin labeling committee awarded the EcoJardin label for three renewable years to Carol Park in Romania and Castel des Deux Rois.

Ecological actions taken by the city of Nice

The Green Spaces Directorate of the City of Nice has identified 62 plant genera originating from Mediterranean and exotic regions in Carol Park in Romania and 74 in Castel des Deux Rois Garden. They have also implemented a “differentiated management plan” to offer more suitable practices for different areas of each garden. โ€œDepending on the identified areas, adapted measures have been put in place such as the enhancement of green waste into mulch, the densification of slopes by planting shrubs, the planting of ground covers, the creation of fascines, or even the installation of paving and a lawn.โ€ In a pedagogical approach to raise public awareness and preserve biodiversity, the city has set up an insect spiral in Carol Park in Romania and an insect hotel in Castel des Deux Rois Garden.

Eco-responsible Nice

Since 2017, the city of Nice has been recognized for its ecological actions. The Monastery Garden of Cimiez obtained the EcoJardin label in 2017. The following year, Promenade du Paillon and Mont-Boron also received it. โ€œThe policy I have been pursuing since 2008 in favor of the environment and biodiversity bears fruit daily. At a time when the climate challenge is compelling all agendas, our city can congratulate itself on having been a pioneer for over 10 years in a sustainable development model that reconciles growth, jobs, and respect for our planet,โ€ stated Christian Estrosi.
