The Economical Kitchen, chaired by Gérard Forcheri and run by Sister Anne-Marie, was established in 1906 by a member of the St Vincent de Paul society to “Provide, without any discrimination, freely or for a very modest contribution, meals to people without resources or with very low resources.”
A century later, with the same dedication and selflessness, the 34 volunteers of the Economical Kitchen continue to offer meals, listening, and comfort to those excluded from abundance.
Each year, nearly 20,000 meals (prepared on-site by the volunteers) are served, averaging 120 meals on 170 working days, with periods reaching up to 200 meals during the Christmas holidays.
In addition to these meals, the association offers listening and administrative advice alongside a snack three afternoons a week: a variety of activities are also offered, such as computer classes, singing, drawing, sewing… 70 people per day benefit from these workshops.
