Economy: INSEE Confirms Employment Recovery

Latest News

After three years of job destruction, France created 82,300 market sector jobs last year, according to Insee.

According to these latest figures, revised upwards compared to the initial estimate published in mid-February, France created 82,300 net market sector jobs for the whole of 2015. This corresponds to a 0.5% increase year-on-year.

This increase, the first in three years (France indeed lost 62,600 jobs in 2014, 65,800 in 2013, and 106,800 in 2012) is significantly stronger than initially announced and impacts all sectors of activity, with the always notable exception of industry and construction.

However, in detail, “over the year, 37,700 jobs were eliminated in the industry sector (a 1.2% decrease), and 35,500 in construction (a 2.7% decrease),” states Insee.

Meanwhile, temporary employment continues to progress and demonstrate its dynamism, as it increased by 9.4% over the year (resulting in 50,600 jobs created).

The tertiary sector excluding temporary work is also progressing, but at a significantly less dynamic pace: up by 1.3% with 155,400 jobs created.
