The unemployment rate was 8.7% in the second quarter of 2018 in metropolitan France, according to provisional data published by INSEE.
It also decreased compared to the second quarter of 2017, when it stood at 9.1%.
In absolute numbers, metropolitan France had 2,538,000 unemployed people, compared to 2,643,000 in the second quarter of 2017 and 2,785,000 in the second quarter of 2016.
The unemployment rate decreased the most among young people (-2.6% for those aged 15-24), and even more so among young women (-3.3%).
