Since 2015, at the initiative of the association Nissart Per Tougiou, this Nice tradition (revived in 1906 by Menica Rondelli, author of Nice’s anthem) has been modernized to showcase a youthful and dynamic, sincere, and passionate aspect of Nice’s culture, giving the lucky winner a real status for an entire year.
As part of a comprehensive policy implemented since 2008 to enhance and transmit the Nice language, the municipality has decided to support the organization of this election.
The election of the Queen of May 2017 will take place on Monday, May 1st at the Cimiez Gardens.
The selected candidates will participate in the final election to succeed Elea, Queen of May 2016. Each of the candidates will present her personality and love for local culture, supported by a speech and a performance of her choice (music, singing, dancing, cooking, theater, games…).
A jury composed of five personalities representing Nissart Per Tougiou, the City of Nice, and associations promoting Nice’s culture, will elect the neighborhood Queens and the Queen of May 2017 from among the candidates.
The Queen of May 2017 will receive numerous gifts, free access to many events, and will also have the duty of official representation of Nice’s culture throughout the year!
