On April 24, 2022, the incumbent president Emmanuel Macron was re-elected for five years by the French people. Following this, and for the second time in the history of the 5th Republic, a woman was appointed Prime Minister. Élisabeth Borne, former head of the RATP and Minister of Labor, will take on this role for the coming years.

Four days after her appointment, Élisabeth Borne announced that the members of the new government would be named in the afternoon of May 20, 2022. During her first appearance in the city of Les Mureaux, under media pressure, she stated she wanted to take her time to present the best composition to the French people.

This appointment will be followed by the first Council of Ministers of President Macron’s second term, which will take place on Monday, May 23, 2022.
