“Before choosing people, you must choose a project.” Elisabeth Guigou, PS Deputy of Seine-Saint-Denis, former Minister of European Affairs and Keeper of the Seals, supports Bertrand Delanoë to succeed François Hollande as the head of the Socialist Party but hopes for a smooth internal campaign for the PS. Her goal: to make the PS as strong as possible.
How? She advocates for a unity between Martine Aubry and Bertrand Delanoë: “They are very complementary, they have very friendly relations.” Elisabeth Guigou appreciates the track record of the mayor of Paris: “I support his approach. He is capable of uniting. He has proven his consistency and efficiency.” She plays the unity card. For the 2012 deadline and the presidential election, she admits that Bertrand Delanoë would be a good choice. Before men, there is the project. She reveals her ideas: “Purchasing power is above all about finding the path to growth, managing to reduce the cost for the most modest. Regarding Universities, it is a terrible failure to see half of the students leave the course without a diploma. Universities must have their autonomy.”
On the eve of the French presidency of Europe, Elisabeth Guigou does not want “to leave the monopoly of criticism to the eurosceptics.” A solution: “give a popular basis to the European Union. We must provide perspectives and a vision. There isn’t a clear voice to defend Europe in the face of globalization.” And she criticizes the government’s choices: “I am dismayed that at the moment the French government is part of the countries that want to increase the maximum working hours to 64 per week.”
