After achieving great success with “Le saut de l’ange,” her first album, Emma Daumas released her second album at the beginning of this year, titled “Effets secondaires” (Side Effects). Gone is the “Star Academy” label; the album from the former reality TV star really deserves attention…
Gone is the teen-punk look à la Avril Lavigne; Emma Daumas returns with a more glamorous and sophisticated style: “Effets secondaires” is “the album of maturity.” Indeed, she sings about her doubts, joys, and sorrows, and her self-reflections with a lot of sincerity and vulnerability (“Ailleurs”).
For this album, the singer surrounded herself with the current top songwriters (Benoît Poher, David Hallyday): Emma herself wrote four tracks on this album, the very cynical “Mon tombeur,” “A ma place,” and the beautifully crafted “Paranoïa” and “Sous tes mains,” very well written and performed. The last pleasant surprise of the album is the hidden track duo “You got me” with Eskobar.
An album with pop rock sounds. Emma has traded her rebel gear for a more glamorous style, but Emma has not lost her “rock attitude,” especially in concert, with titles such as “Club Addict” or “Mon tombeur,” which is anticipated to be the second single as it is the most acclaimed track.
