The President of the Republic will travel to the department to discuss the issue of security and to take stock of the progress of reconstruction work in the Roya Valley, devastated by Storm Alex in October 2020.
The President will first visit the site of the future police headquarters in Nice, accompanied by the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, and the Minister Delegate for Citizenship, Marlène Schiappa, according to a statement from the Élysée Palace.
The new building is expected to house several services such as the national, municipal, and judicial police by 2025. 2,000 members of the law enforcement forces are expected to move in.
Emmanuel Macron is expected to make announcements on police and security, particularly regarding the programming bill expected by the end of the first quarter.
In the afternoon, the Head of State will make an anticipated visit to Tende, in the Roya Valley, which was ravaged over a year ago by Storm Alex. Emmanuel Macron had already visited the site on October 7, 2020, shortly after the disaster.
Three months ago, the President had already promised to return to the site to assess the progress of the reconstruction work. With this visit, that promise will be fulfilled.
