The municipal councilor for the Left Front in Nice and the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis, Emmanuelle Gaziello, led a public debate on the future of the Stade du Ray and its surroundings. A very good way for everyone to speak up and share their ideas.

Three weeks ago, during his New Year address, the “Left Differently” elected official admitted that the Mayor had a small speculative idea about this matter, saying it was simply “land speculation.” Hearing and listening to the ideas and needs of the residents, the people of Nice, everyone could bring their arguments to a healthy and open discussion. A real public dialogue on the future of the former GYM stadium.

This debate has been holding the 5th Canton in suspense for a few months following the start of the construction of the Allianz Riviera in the Plaine du Var.

A month ago, the Deputy Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, wanted this neighborhood to have “a consolidation of public service facilities, the enhancement of the economic attractiveness of the neighborhood, adaptation of parking, notably through the creation of underground parking spaces, and outdoor and indoor sports facilities.”

But for the PC and Left Front elected representative, that’s not enough. It’s important not to limit ourselves to the opinions of elected officials, association representatives, neighborhood committees, and shopkeepers, but for these different meetings to be genuinely open to the public because “they deserve to be heard and discussed.”

The councilor criticizes the City Hall and its first representative, Christian Estrosi, for neglecting public debate. For her, giving a voice to the residents, the people who live this situation every day, is more interesting than the opinions of high-ranking officials.

Ideas are not lacking for the many participants. Several proposals are enriching the debate. Some believe it’s a shame to destroy the Stade du Ray, although outdated, but a symbol of OGCN.

Some propose taking down the stands while keeping the pitch, allowing it to become a Municipal Stadium. However, it is felt that the subject is quite sensitive and opinions can easily diverge without turning into a street fight.

The Stade du Ray could become spaces, nearby sports facilities, or public services. This neighborhood covers 7 hectares, and some oppose further urban densification as the population density in Nice-Nord is already very high.

Already a boiling fortress in Ligue 1, the Ray enclosure has not yet finished making headlines on the political front.
