Italy: Leaders of the 5 Star Movement and the League enter the government, the new cabinet will be sworn in on Friday
On Thursday, May 31, President Sergio Mattarella asked Mr. Nobody, alias Giuseppe Conte, an unknown lawyer and university professor, to form a government, for the second time in eight days.
The leaders of the 5 Star Movement (M5S) and the League, Luigi Di Maio and Matteo Salvini, become Deputy Prime Ministers and will be the true commanders on board.
The first, who before his political career was a steward in the stands at the Naples stadium, is appointed to Economic Development and the second to the Interior.
The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella had vetoed the first cabinet proposed by the two populist parties last Sunday because of the nomination of a eurosceptic Minister of Economy: the Ministry of Economy and Finance goes to Giuseppe Tria, a professor of political economy in favor of keeping Italy in the euro. The very European Enzo Moavero Milanesi, who worked for 20 years in Brussels, is placed in Foreign Affairs while Paolo Savona (82 years old) eventually becomes Minister of European Affairs.
After being sworn in this Friday, Giuseppe Conte will seek a confidence vote from the Parliament. The two parties supporting this political novice, the League and the 5 Star Movement, have the majority in both houses.
Then the rumba* can begin… poor Italians and poor Europeans!!!
