In the presence of Lauriano Azinheirinha, Deputy for Education and Youth, Metropolitan Councilor and Gérard Chauveau, Researcher at INRP in education sciences, linguistics, and psychology, creator of the “Le Coup de Pouce Clé” system and Nicolas Marsi, representing APFÉE.
The extracurricular program “Coup de Pouce Clé/Reading and Writing Club” was invented in 1990 by Gérard Chauveau. This researcher at INRP in education sciences, linguistics, and psychology, former teacher, and school psychologist, aimed to create the necessary conditions for the academic success of all students, particularly children from working-class backgrounds.
“Coup de Pouce Clé/Reading and Writing Club” is a learning program designed for first-grade students who do not have adequate family support at home in the evenings to successfully learn to read.
How does “Coup de Pouce Clé/Reading and Writing Club” work?
Each evening after school, from November to June, 5 children (identified as vulnerable by the teacher at the beginning of the year) and a facilitator gather around playful reading and writing activities. Within this “club,” schoolchildren engage with letters, words, and their sounds, discover beautiful stories, enjoy the pleasure of reading and writing, dream, and gain self-confidence.
Thanks to the support of APFÉE (Association for promoting equal opportunities at school), 281 cities in France and overseas territories implemented over 2,000 clubs in the 2011/2012 school year, affecting 10,000 children. For more information, visit the website https://www.coupdepoucecle.fr/.
The “Coup de Pouce Clé” clubs in Nice and Ariane
Since 1999, nearly 800 children have been supported in Nice for their first steps as “apprentice readers.” This year, 7 clubs have been created, including 3 in the Ariane district. 15 children from Pagnol, Piaget, and Prévert schools benefited from this program, managed by the Nice team of the Educational Success Program and led by the Ligue de l’enseignement and OCCE 06.
