Environment: Greenpeace wants more action from politicians

Latest News

In the night from Sunday to Monday, posters were found in front of the Saint-Jean d’Angรฉly campus. Greenpeace put up these signs to raise public awareness about climate issues, which are still too absent from presidential programs.

“French people are recruiting a credible president on climate,” these are the words you can read on Greenpeace’s posters. Members of the environmental protection organization have decided to make their voices heard and send a message. The local group from the Cรดte d’Azur put up several posters that denounce the government’s shortcomings concerning climate action. The goal of this action is to incorporate the theme of climate and the environment into presidential debates, as they are not sufficiently present, according to the association’s members. Since 2017, the government has set environmental goals that have not been met. For example, “France is the only European country that did not meet its renewable energy target in 2020,” according to the Climate Action Network France.

When he took office, the French president made environmental promises that he did not keep. To testify to these failings, “The Case of the Century“, condemned the French state for environmental inaction. Since October 14th, the justice system has condemned the French state for its failings regarding environmental efforts. The lawsuit filed by Notre Affaire ร  tous, the Nicolas Hulot Foundation for Nature and Humanity (FNH), Greenpeace France, and Oxfam France compelled the state to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and address the consequences of its inaction. From now on, if a French president fails to act on climate issues, the state will be considered unlawful.

These posters, taped up by Greenpeace, recall the Case of the Century, and demonstrate that political awareness is mandatory to combat this environmental degradation.
