On Friday, January 27, at 12:30 PM, at the Massรฉna Museum, a delegation of baker-pastry artisans from the Alpes-Maritimes, led by Mr. Claude Batel, President of the Federation of Master Bakers and Pastry Bakers of the Alpes-Maritimes, will be received by the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, to celebrate the Epiphany and share the King’s cake.
This year, the giant cake will be made by Patrick Gosset, a baker-pastry chef in Nice (Boulangerie Pรขtisserie de France).
Through this moment of conviviality, the baker-pastry artisans wish to perpetuate a tradition of their profession, which is to present a cake to local institutions.
Claude BATEL, President, wants to highlight the expertise of the entire profession and especially emphasize the authentic artisanal King’s cake made with puff pastry filled with almond cream, which can only be found at Artisan Bakers. He also wants to remind everyone that Epiphany is traditionally celebrated in January, and it is therefore unfortunate to see industrially made cakes in supermarkets as early as December.
These meetings for the Epiphany also highlight the investment of the Federation of Master Bakers and Pastry Bakers in the economic life of the Alpes-Maritimes. A moment of conviviality and sharing, the Epiphany is a celebration particularly dear to the profession of artisan bakers.
A noble profession, full of tradition and modernity, bakery-pastry occupies an important place in the economy of our department with its 430 businesses.
