Thanks to an agreement reached between Renaissance, RN, and LR (the latter two parties swapped the Vice-president positions with that of the questor), Eric Ciotti was reappointed as questor in the position reserved for the opposition. The representatives of the majority are Marie Guévenoux (first questor) and Eric Woerth.
The three deputies are responsible for the institution’s finances and budget, including its preparation, execution, and oversight. “No new expenditure can be committed without their prior advice,” states the Assembly’s regulations. We are talking about an annual budget that reaches nearly 500 million euros, which is the largest budget item among public authorities, ahead of the Senate and the Élysée.
Therefore, it is a very important role and understandably highly sought after by deputies, not to mention that questors also have access to a state apartment.
Note: like the vice-presidents and secretaries, they are not elected for the entire legislature — only the president of the Assembly is — and they must be reappointed by their peers every year. In practice, they most often are.
