With the ceremony honoring the athletes of Team CG06, the curtain on the London Olympics and Paralympics has definitively fallen. Participation (the primary goal), competitions, and medals will be inscribed in everyone’s book of memories. Many are already looking towards Rio 2016. For others (like Alain Bernard), the focus is on a post-sport career where other competitions are on the horizon.
Eric Ciotti wanted to gather, last night and for a final time, the 32 athletes (representing 14 disciplines) of his “Special Team,” all chosen, supported, and encouraged as part of their pre-Olympic preparation.
The tremendous success of the 23 participants (including 12 medalists) deserves the tribute of the entire sports movement of the Côte d’Azur, as well as their clubs and coaches who accompany them throughout the year.
“Congratulations to the athletes of Team 06 who made the Alpes-Maritimes shine at the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. May the younger ones follow their example and tomorrow enrich the records with new titles already entered into legend,” concluded Eric Ciotti before a large gathering in the gardens in front of the Council General building.
A signing session allowed for an ideal connection between the young athletes and the public.
The evening concluded with a buffet raid: Here too, it was evident that the taste buds and stomachs of some had maintained their Olympic form!
