In his office on the second floor of the Palace of Justice, the Public Prosecutor of the City of Nice, Eric de Montgolfier, has agreed to answer questions from Nice Premiรจre. Revelations about his work and on current issues.

Nice Premiรจre: How is the Public Prosecutor in Nice doing?

Eric De Montgolfier: Both the man and the Prosecutor are doing well! Letโ€™s say one supports the other.

Nice Premiรจre: What are the cases you are currently working on?

EDM: Thatโ€™s a somewhat indiscreet question. These are public cases. The others do not deserve to be advanced now. There are measures to be taken on some cases that require the element of surprise.

Nice Premiรจre: Your departure had been considered. Is it still current?

EDM: By whom, by the Mayor of Nice? At the moment I have no projects on this subject although I am available for a departure. I consider five years to be enough. But it does not depend on me. So, if I have to stay even until retirement age, it wonโ€™t be cruel. I am doing well in Nice.

Nice Premiรจre: What is the atmosphere like today in the Nice Court?

EDM: The atmosphere is normal. The Palaces are a microcosm. Inevitably some like each other, others not. But we are far from skulking along the walls as we did previously. Things have taken their place. Justice is rendered in Nice as it is everywhere else.

About the Outreau case. What is your feeling and what are, in your opinion, the solutions to prevent such events in the future?

EDM: First, it is necessary to understand why these events occurred. I recently attended a spectacle that was not humanly sustainable, that of a man thrown to the lions upon which the others sharpened their teeth and claws. In a shipwreck of this nature, the judge of inquiry is a convenient scapegoat.

Now, I am not familiar with this case. And it is an advantage not to talk about it, due to not knowing it. Some would do well to do the same.
