Establishment at the University of Nice of the Grand Sud Delegation in France of the European Court of Arbitration

Latest News

With the signing of the agreement between the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (UNS) and the European Court of Arbitration on Friday, December 9, 2011, the Faculty of Law and Political Science of UNS officially hosts the Grand South Delegation, which will manage both the Executive Committee and the delegated registry of the European Court.

The decentralized management of the registry, combined with administrative autonomy, provides the Faculty of Law and Political Science of UNS with a complete judicial body within its structure. This is a first in France.

The registry of the delegation will be managed by the Center for Studies and Research in Private Law (CERDP) of the university to, on the one hand, ensure complete confidentiality of the cases that may be entrusted to this arbitration pathway and, on the other hand, benefit from the support of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, which strongly supports the initiative by providing personnel for the registry and premises for hosting both the Court, its Executive Committee, and its registry (ceagrandsud@unice.fr).

Arbitration results from an agreement by which the parties to one or multiple contracts commit to submit disputes that may arise related to these contracts to a judge who is not a state judge.

When a case is brought before the Grand South Delegation, it will be up to its Executive Committee to appoint the arbitrator who will handle the dispute.
