Nice, the Green City of the Mediterranean, a future reality for our city,” is the promise of Christian Estrosi, the Deputy Mayor of the city of Nice. He has managed to convince the crowd and announced that he wants to make Nice “the city of the 21st century.” Four main themes will be the pillars of this local urban planning (PLU).
The first theme concerns “the preservation and enhancement of the landscape and an exemplary environment.” It involves restoring and enhancing the cityโs green network, as well as protecting, promoting, and raising awareness of Niceโs heritage. The Deputy Mayor wants to engage the entire city in an energy policy and support agricultural activities.
The second part focuses on housing: “Housing and living together.” It will serve to create a sufficient and quality housing offer, promote a policy of proximity, and support the development of artisanal activities and small businesses, all while favoring a balanced distribution of local commerce.
As the third theme, Christian Estrosi chose to address (new) means of transportation in “Better circulation and alternative transportation methods.” To this end, a new security sharing of public space will be created, and new parking facilities will emerge. The Deputy Mayor of Nice also noted that he wanted to “develop an attractive transportation policy for alternatives to the car.”
Finally, Nice could “assert itself as an international metropolis.” Christian Estrosi wishes to “promote Nice as an international metropolis serving employment” and “support major events.”
Nice could have a flourishing future, under the respect of the environment. A future that its inhabitants are eager to discover.
