In the time of Brexit and various protest movements, discussing Europe remains difficult. Awareness and information organizations about Europe’s actions are struggling to renew their way of engaging with their audiences.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, the founding text of European construction, the play “Europe on Trial” which aims to provoke and challenge, will be presented to the public this Tuesday at 6 PM at the Opera.
A team of actors, assisted by European and legal experts, conducts a mock trial with real guest “witnesses,” who come to testify “at the stand,” including Odile Ménozzi, president of the European Movement in the Alpes-Maritimes.
The set and costumes are meticulously designed to immerse the audience in the particular atmosphere of a real trial.
Deliberately provocative, “Europe on Trial” calls for reaction, for taking a stand in order to move away from silence or lukewarm consensus, and to help rediscover the essence of European construction.
The play will be followed by a discussion on the future of Europe, attended by Isabelle Jegouzo, Head of the European Commission Representation in Paris.
