Since 1995, the European Movement of Cannes has organized Europe Day in Cannes and the Alpes-Maritimes in various forms. Once again this year, it is rallying for May 9th with the city of Cannes in the presence of its mayor, Pierre Brochand.

The theme โEurope is You, Europe is Usโ was chosen to start an awareness campaign regarding European issues since the Parliament will have a major role to play in the future of Europe.
By creating spaces for debate and seeking responses to misconceptions and prejudices, the involvement of each European citizen will be at the heart of our action and mobilization. The planned activities will be directed to encourage an approach towards adults and the youth.โ
May 9th in Cannes will be a moment of sharing and initiatives focused on:
A street survey which will serve to lively feed into the Cafรฉ dโEurope in advance.
The construction of a wall of clichรฉs about the European Parliament in particular, and the European Union in general at D-365: the written expressions captured on-site will stem from this street survey and public proposals. The wall symbolizes the difficulty we face in responding to critics of the European project. Facing this reality invites us to clearly and collectively articulate our vision for Europe.
The Cafรฉ dโEurope will be held in an open space (a bandstand decorated with the flags of the 27 countries and the European flag) on the Allรฉes de la Libertรฉ, a true agora in the heart of the city and a busy crossroads for Cannes locals and tourists.
The event will be hosted by Laurence VANIN VERNA (a professor of political philosophy at the University of Toulon Var), author of the book โPolitics and Citizenshipโ.
The Cafรฉ dโEurope will conclude with the demolition of the wall of clichรฉs, kicking off a year rich in debates and encounters that will encourage citizens to fully take their place.
