European Elections: A Small Revolution in the Alpes-Maritimes

Latest News

In the Alpes-Maritimes, 49.84% of voters cast their ballots.

The National Rally is the leading party with 29.77% of the votes, followed by the Renaissance list at 21.59% and the EE-LV at 11.88%.

The Republicans, who nevertheless control almost all the town halls, only secured 11.43%.

In Nice, as well as in the other major cities of the department, we find the same result:

RN 28.18, Renaissance 21.83, EE-LV 11.87, LR 11.77

This new electoral hierarchy—even though each election has its dynamics—heralds new perspectives for the municipal elections in 2020.

Christian Estrosi’s reaction

The turnout, which is more than 10 points higher than in 2014, is good news for democracy and shows that the French have grasped the importance of the debate.

However, the score of the National Rally, which dominates this election as it did five years ago despite the calamitous record of their outgoing deputies, shows that the French wanted to send a message to the leaders of our country. Although this result may weaken France at the European level, it is a message that everyone must take into account.

As for the Republican party, this is the worst result in the history of the right. In the Alpes-Maritimes department, it is a historic defeat for the Republicans, demonstrating that we must continue to fight all forms of radicalism and sectarianism.

This very disappointing result is due to the narrowing of discourse and the internal divisions that exist within our party. It is urgent, as I have continuously stated since the presidential election, that the question of the party’s line and expansion in doctrine and appetite be debated. I have consistently called for unity, collective intelligence, an end to personal conflicts, and urged the right to seek dialogue with all its natural partners without dogmatism since that date.

This dialogue is now urgent if the right wants to continue to exist in the political landscape. It is in unity and gathering that Jacques Chirac and then Nicolas Sarkozy have always managed our party and have always allowed us to find the path to victory.
