New Features of the 2011 Heritage Days Edition in Cannes!
The centenary of the port of Moure Rouge: to celebrate its 100 years, Moure Rouge offers a specially designed exhibition for the occasion and guided tours of the port’s infrastructure and workshops. The Park of the Vallombrosa Residence: this year, the Vallombrosa Residence opens the doors of its entrance hall which we were eager to rediscover!

The entire cultural offer will be available to the public throughout the day, along with numerous workshops and activities.


jep2011-2.jpg In Cannes, the 2010 edition of the Heritage Days recorded more than 12,000 visitors spread over the twenty or so sites offered.

The 18 sites open in Cannes during these days boast an astonishing diversity: religious, civil, or private buildings, parks, castles, villas, historical heritage, and natural sites… All tastes will be satisfied!

New sites have progressively been integrated into this cultural event, bringing together public and private buildings for these days. New actors have also been involved in organizing this event: municipal agents, volunteers, and even students.

Thus, renewing their participation, students from the BTS tourism program at Sainte Marie de Chavagnes High School in Cannes will offer guided tours and quality hospitality at various sites.

Firstly, the movable cultural heritage that results in the most varied settings such as at Villa Domergue, inspired by Venetian architecture, which opens its doors in July, August, and September, or at the Bellini Chapel, a charming 19th-century building housing the works of Emmanuel and Lucette Bellini, with the exhibition “Time Travel” punctuating the Heritage Days.

The municipal archives of Cannes offer the opportunity to discover the historical documents of the City, cataloged from the Old Regime to the present day, and presented in the most varied forms: correspondences, posters, postcards…

Next, the real estate cultural heritage, designating monuments, archaeological sites, or even underwater sites: the monks of the Fortified Monastery of the Lérins Abbey will again offer guided tours of the chapels and archaeological excavations as well as conferences on “The Saints of Lérins and the Expansion of Their Cult.”

The museums of La Castre and the Sea, Le Moulin Forville, and the Villa Rothschild / Noailles Media Library will offer general or thematic guided tours, thus showcasing collections, civilizations, or other historical figures.

Similarly, the public will have access to religious buildings such as the Notre-Dame de Bon-Voyage church, which in addition to discovery tours, in the company of Mr. Pourtau, will invite us to share a highly emotional moment with “L’heure d’Orgue” orchestrated by Mr. Baston, holder of the great organs of Perpignan.

And this year a salty fragrance will sweep over the Days as to celebrate the centenary of Moure Rouge, a photography exhibition and tours will allow the people of Cannes to rediscover the history of this lovely family harbor.

In addition to this, the intangible cultural heritage, considered as the set of rites or traditions: the Chapel of the hill of Saint-Cassien is an interesting example as it highlights the continuity of the Provençal tradition of the patronal feast of Cannes.

For the curious and art enthusiasts, rendezvous for a discovery meeting around the restoration of a painting. Paintings that art-loving visitors can admire at the La Malmaison Art Center with the astonishing exhibition “The Moya Civilization” and at the Espace Miramar with the drawings of Japanese Yoshitaka Amano.

Not to forget the natural heritage, illustrated again this year by the organized tours on Sainte-Marguerite Island, an opportunity for most to discover a unique heritage, born from the marriage between built structures and nature, meet at the island’s pier!

Commented tours of the Vallombrosa Castle park titled “A castle, a hotel, a condominium, and three wars” and the Champfleuri Residence will allow visitors to enrich their knowledge of history and admire the magnificent flora meticulously maintained.

Moreover, Cannes Town Hall, open to the public for a few years now, well illustrates the new face given to these days with a desire to discover the places where the municipality operates.

Indeed, it is on his own wish that the Deputy Mayor will once again open
his office, where all the important decisions for the commune are discussed, as well as the wedding hall and the monumental staircase, for the delight of history and architecture enthusiasts.

During the visit to Boulevard Carnot, the communicative passion of the volunteers of the Renaissance Carnot association for this district will allow the greatest number to discover it in a new light.
