European Night at the Museum of Asian Arts: Breathtaking Creations, Between Spirituality and Modernity…

Latest News

On Saturday, May 17th, as part of the European Night of Museums, the Departmental Museum of Asian Arts will host the fashion show by internationally renowned designer Xu Ming, entitled “The Words of Buddha.”

This show is also part of the 2014 events organized by the General Council to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between France and the People’s Republic of China.

For her new collection, the designer drew inspiration from observing representations of Buddha and sacred lotus flowers.

The image of Buddha is thus reproduced on the bodice of the dresses, and the petals of the lotus flower form interwoven flounces, giving the dress the appearance of a corolla-shaped gown with bold forms. The golden hue, combined with old pink and gold tones, sets the dominant theme of the show, and the headpieces and turbans complete the haute couture creation.

It is worth noting that Xu Ming, who trained at ESMOD-Paris, was the chief costume designer for prestigious events such as the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
