European Union: The recognition of the Marseille-Genoa section as a European corridor will be a game-changer for regional mobility.

Latest News

The completion of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), with corridors as its backbone, is set for 2030.

This will be the main axis of mobility policy that will enable the integration of the territories of the European Union. The completion of the 9 corridors requires funding of 700 billion euros, with an EU contribution of nearly 300 billion.

The recognition of the Marseille-Genoa section will allow connection with the corridor that runs from Rotterdam to the Ligurian city, passing through the heart of Germany, in Frankfurt.

One can easily understand the satisfaction of Renaud MUSELIER, President of the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte dโ€™Azur Region and Member of the European Parliament, after this announcement: โ€œAn essential victory for our territory! A decision that changes absolutely everything for our Region, for its ports, and its rail infrastructures!โ€

From now on, all projects related to this section will be prioritized for European funding under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). It’s an incredible change of scale, making us eligible for several billion euros to be deployed over the next 10 years.

This funding could cover:

  • essential rail modifications for the Marseille-Ventimiglia-Genoa line, the backbone of our coast,
  • port development, starting with the Grand Port Maritime of Marseille: General infrastructures, digital equipment, and liquefied natural gas terminals,
  • and everything that contributes to promoting multimodality, thus alleviating road congestion in the Region with positive consequences for residents’ health (air pollution, air quality).

A call for projects has just been launched by the Commission and will close in October.

We must deploy all our efforts to submit as many applications as possible and immediately initiate the dynamic. I will do everything to encourage initiatives in this direction,โ€ declared Renaud MUSELIER, President of the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte dโ€™Azur Region.
