This exceptional lecture will be given by Madame Anne Devroye-Stilz, a graduate of the Ecole du Louvre, a doctor in art history, and a curator at the Musรฉe des Beaux-Arts and the Musรฉe Jakowsky.
The lecturer will present the work of Bronzino, particularly a mid-16th century panel from the municipal collections of Nice, which will soon be available for public admiration at the Musรฉe des Beaux-Arts. The work, which represents a “rendezvous with the visible,” depicts a crucifixion of rare quality and realism rarely equaled.
The master anticipated the explorations of Caravaggio and reveals a sobriety indicating a profound re-evaluation of his art in the service of the Medici court.
