Latest News

From June 7 to 9, 2024, the city of Nice will host the Art of Illumination. Located at the Providence Cultural Center, the Illuminare Association invites you to discover this art through various works. A conference is also scheduled for Saturday, June 8, at 4 p.m.

It is at 8 bis Rue St Augustine in Old Nice that this exhibition takes place. From June 7 to 9, the Illuminare Association welcomes you to the Providence Cultural Center to showcase their works.

The conference on June 8 at 4 p.m. will feature a medieval reenactment by the Companions of the Tourrentelle.

Over the course of three days, the event offers a chance to explore the art of Illumination. An art form that developed in the Middle Ages and aims to bring light.

Illumination involves decorating manuscripts with illustrations, motifs, initial letters, or even colorful borders.

A Leap into the Past

It is in the streets of Old Nice that the Providence Cultural Center is located. A few small steps lead up to the gates of the building.

Just pass through the stone arch to arrive in a courtyard. The interior of the building, with its yellow walls, tiles, and even an organ, adds extra charm to the art exhibited.

These are meticulous works reproduced by the Illuminare Association. Works from the Middle Ages that tell a story, our story. For here you will find our roots. Gold, blue, red… The very pigments used in ancient times.

It also showcases techniques and their evolution, ranging from the Insular period up to the Renaissance. A visit appreciated for the art but also for the captivating explanations provided by the association’s members.

A great way to enhance your cultural knowledge!
