Exhibition to be seen until October 30: THE TIME OF ACTION / ACT 1
A study on the history of performance on the Côte d’Azur from 1951 to the present day.
This exhibition is designed as the first stage of research conducted by the Villa Arson since September 2007 on the history of performance on the Côte d’Azur from 1951 to the present day.
This project will culminate in the summer of 2012 with the launching of the most comprehensive database possible on the subject, a publication, and an Act 2 exhibition bringing together films, photos, objects, and various documents related to this history.
The adventure begins in 1951 and 1952 with the presence of the Lettrists at the Cannes Festival, notably the 1952 screening of the film without images or filmstrip, Tambours du Jugement Premier, by François Dufrêne, conceived as a true collective performance.
The research then moves through the formal inventions of Yves Klein and Arman from the mid-1950s, followed by Nouveau Réalisme, Ben and his Total Theater, and Fluxus, the presence of Georges Brecht and Robert Filliou at La Cédille qui Sourit between 1965 and 1968.
