Rémi Pesce Exhibition, Free as the Air
*Until September 14, 2011*
Musée de Saint-Paul, 2 rue Grande – daily from 10 AM to 7 PM
Espace Verdet, place de l’Hospice – daily from 2 PM to 7 PM
The town of Saint-Paul de Vence pays tribute to the village’s artist, Rémi Pesce, from July 1 to September 14.
A selection showcasing the full creative range of the artist (collages, paintings, sculptures…) will be presented at two locations: Musée de Saint-Paul & Espace Verdet.
By dedicating its 2011 summer exhibition to Rémi Pesce, the town of Saint-Paul de Vence wishes to honor a contemporary artist who is part of the village’s artistic community.
Aside from an innate gift that he probably wasn’t even aware of at first, nothing seemed to predestine Rémi to become the creator he is today. Nothing, except for his 10 years of experience at the Colombe d’Or, the filmmakers and painters he met there.
Nothing except his friendships with Paul Roux, Manfredo Borsi, and César; nothing except the curiosity of an artist-craftsman transcended by an extravagant imagination.
In the universe of his atelier on chemin du Cercle, Rémi explores various avenues, painting, sculpting, he tames new materials such as polystyrene, creates a baroque bestiary including the horse Lucky, the village’s lucky charm with its 3,000 horseshoes, as many as the inhabitants, calmly watching over the West ramparts of the village, delighting his many admirers.
His work in the studio does not prevent him from staying mindful of the explosions that regularly shake the world, as in September 2001 when, deeply moved by the attack on the twin towers, he tragically expresses his horror through unusually large canvases for him.
In Saint-Paul de Vence, everyone knows Rémi Pesce, but not everyone has had the chance to approach the artist or discover his work and journey.
