Exhibition of the 2012 Laureates of the Young Creation Award, City of Nice/Bernar Venet Foundation

From October 19 to February 2, 2014, Rรฉmi Voche and Quentin Derouet will present their work at the Galerie de la Marine. Graduates of the National School of Art at Villa Arson, these young artists won the 2012 Prize for Young Contemporary Creation from the City of Nice and the Bernar Venet Foundation.

The artistic visions of Rรฉmi Voche and Quentin Derouet may seem quite different, as the two artists experience artistic creation with very different concerns and mindsets.

Rรฉmi Voche is obsessed with images and nature, the latter being a revelator through which he conveys his messages. He’s better known for his performances and photographic work, which consists of a highly composed body of images with repeated framing, rather than his video work.

Quentin Derouet, although he also creates images, would prefer to be regarded as a poet rather than an artist. Driven by intentions, he enjoys creating situations and atmospheres that celebrate life without imposing order or hierarchy.

The exhibition features 17 photos and 7 videos by Rรฉmi Voche showing the artist eating soil, hugging a tree, or in attitudes close to animism, intertwined with Quentin Derouet’s stagings such as “La Fรชte du Plus Jamais,” the scent of his distilled works, and the “Galerie Betty Betty.” These highlight, among other things, the beautiful energy bringing together the two young artists.
