Extension of Line 1: L’Ariane and La Trinité Do Not Give Up!

Latest News

The collective for the extension of tram line 1 held an important conference in L’Ariane where numerous representatives from the collective spoke.

The speakers expressed themselves in front of a backdrop of a wall covered with several thousand signatures, illustrating that “when the voices of the people of L’Ariane and La Trinité are heard, they speak up,” insisted Patrick Allemand (At the Heart of Nice), highlighting the collective work accomplished, leading to 5,646 signatures demanding the tram.

Bruno Della Sudda, former city councilor (Ensemble! 06), reminded that under Jacques Peyrat’s mandate from 2001-2008, the principle of extending line 1 was established and a route was chosen by the neighborhood council.

Michel Gerardin (association “3 T”) made public a comparative study of the benefits of BHLS versus those of the tram, showing that a BHLS is limited to 1,500 passengers per hour, which is half that of a tram. He revealed that, according to a survey conducted among 1,300 motorists in the valleys, two-thirds would be willing to take the tram to go to the city.

Georges Trova (association “Les Arianencs”) emphasized that it currently takes 45 minutes during peak hours to get to Pasteur, which is unacceptable.

The MRAP and Attac 06 (Christian Masson and Geneviève Legay) stressed the discriminatory nature that would result from implementing a BHLS when, thanks to line 2, all other “city policy” neighborhoods of Nice are now connected to the tram.

PCF 06 represented by Philippe Pellegrini, EELV 06 by Juliette Chesnel-le-Roux, and PS 06 by Raphaël Galmiche each emphasized the support brought to this collective, the notion that everyone could come together on this matter, and that extending tram line 1 was simultaneously an ecological measure, a social justice measure, and a democratic strengthening measure.
