The Federation of Student Associations and Corporations of the Alpes-Maritimes (FACE 06) is a non-profit organization. Represented by Graig Monetti, FACE 06 conducted a study before the upcoming academic year (2014/2015) on “the cost of starting school”.
FACE 06 is the student federation that brings together, from Nice to the Sophia-Antipolis hub – passing through Cannes and Menton -, most of the student associations from various fields of the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis and the Grandes Écoles of the Alpes-Maritimes department. This federation’s role is to represent the student society, promote associative actions, and organize student projects and events at its city federation scale. Its objectives aim to allow students of Nice and its department to thrive as best as possible in their student lives.
On Monday, August 18, 2014, FACE 06 was the first student federation to have conducted an analysis on the cost of the 2014/2015 academic year start. An indicator calculated based on a non-scholarship student, living independently from their parents.
The assessment of the university start cost reveals an increase that students must face. According to this report: “This finding becomes very alarming as it leads more and more young people from popular social classes to give up on university. ‘University for all’ remains, once again, a theory that does not apply to everyone. While the government said it was committed to this principle of ‘University for all’ and wished to refocus on the youth, we note that inequalities have never been so strong, and we can truly talk about multi-speed education.”
The cost of starting the university year is estimated at 2575.64 euros for the year 2014/2015 compared to 2556.22 euros for the year 2013. This is an increase of 0.76% over the previous year. The report reveals a decrease in costs related to food, telecoms, equipment, and rent (in accordance with the ALUR law reform regarding agency fees).
One of FACE 06’s proposals is the “FACE 06 Card”. It allows students to benefit from advantages and discounts in various areas of daily life (clothing, leisure, wellness…) thanks to its many partners.
Moreover, “L’AGORAé-FACE 06, located at 140 Boulevard de la Madeleine in Nice, is a student life space. It is primarily a solidarity grocery store, helping to alleviate student expenses related to food or hygiene throughout the year. By composing a basket worth 70€ in traditional stores, at the AGORAé-FACE06 the student spends only 7€”.
Finally, FACE 06 provides students with a “Guide of Social Aid. It is a booklet summarizing all the aid a student can receive. It will allow them to easily find out about the aid available to them and not get lost in administrative complexities”.
