The California-based company is planning to create a “metaverse,” in other words, develop a parallel virtual universe that is increasingly futuristic. To achieve this goal, the social network intends to hire 10,000 people across Europe over the next five years.

The term Metaverse comes from the science fiction novel by Neal Stephenson, referring to a parallel digital universe.

Teleporting thousands of kilometers away or dancing in a nightclub: to reach this goal, the social network plans to hire 10,000 people across Europe over the next ten years.

To build this project, the American giant has decided to employ 10,000 people in Europe. The company currently has 63,000 employees.

This collaboration would allow Facebook to establish itself on the continent. However, the nature and location have not yet been revealed.

The news could be transformative; it is likely to cause quite a stir, as the American firm has been accused for some time of fostering teenagers’ addiction to social networks.
