The first evening of “Les Nuits d’รtรฉ” took place on Monday, July 7, at the Hippodrome de la Cรดte d’Azur. Trotting races, free activities for children, and a festive atmosphere: a popular event that appeals beyond horse racing enthusiasts.
Binoculars in hand, list of horses and bets in the pocket, at 7:10 PM it was officially the start of the summer meeting at the Cagnes-sur-Mer racecourse. On the agenda for this first evening: 7 trotting races, spread out until 10:30 PM.
On-site, the parking lot is full, and the stands are well-stocked. As for the atmosphere, a relaxed and friendly vibe prevails. While you certainly see regulars, they share their playground with a wider audience, curious or coming with family for an original summer outing.
Activities designed for all audiences
“We came last year and we absolutely wanted to come back with the kids!” says Jessy, a mother accompanied by her two boys aged 4 and 6. “By coming here, they can discover something completely new. Horses, sulky bikes, racing. And with the activities as well, itโs perfect. They have fun while we also enjoy the evening.” Sitting at the edge of the track, the children, smiling and with sandwiches in hand, seem delighted.
The Hippodrome de la Cรดte d’Azur has focused on opening up to a wider audience for this summer edition. In terms of atmosphere, country music between each race adds a festive touch, and the shouts of race enthusiasts burst forth at every finish line approach. The diversity of the audience is striking: couples of tourists, groups of friends, families with strollers, teenagers coming out of curiosity… Like David, 18, who came to spend the evening here with his group of friends. “I live in Nice, and itโs the first time Iโm here to watch the races. The atmosphere is very nice! We’re all together with music, eating and drinking… What more can you ask for?” says this young Niรงois. This event allows everyone to gather by the track, as if isolated from the city.
A canceled fireworks but the party goes on
Initially planned to close the evening, the fireworks could not be set off due to the wind. There was some disappointment among visitors, but itโs only postponed since nine more are planned throughout the summer.
Because yes, this first evening sets the tone! Les Nuits d’รtรฉ continue until August 23, with several major events not to be missed each week, always centered around trotting races.
