Last Saturday, a man turned himself in to the authorities and led them to the body of his ex-partner, locked in the trunk of a car.
This sixty-year-old man, the main suspect of the crime, initially told them that he had hit his ex-partner. He then confessed to strangling her.
On Monday evening, he was placed in provisional custody and charged with murder. The public prosecutor of Nice had announced the opening of a judicial investigation for murder earlier that same day. He then stated that “the individual acknowledges at this stage of the procedure having strangled the victim following a dispute whose reasons are yet to be clearly established. These events happen in any case in the aftermath of a marital separation that occurred during the spring of 2021.”
At this point, premeditation is the main focus, and the ex-partner of the victim was unknown to the authorities and the justice system.
This femicide is the third of the year 2022, following that of a 27-year-old woman in Maine-et-Loire and another 56-year-old in Meurthe-et-Moselle, both killed with a knife.
