The 6th edition of the Cinealma festival is here! It will be rich in cinematic news and creativity, in line with the events and upheavals that have shaped the Mediterranean area over the past year. From October 14 to 23, 2011, the screen at the Juliette Greco Hall in Carros will showcase 26 films, including 9 premieres and 7 exclusives from 9 countries (Algeria, Egypt, Spain, France, Iran, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia).
The public, eagerly awaiting this event, will meet several prestigious guests with whom they can interact and debate (Carlos Saura, Radu Mihaileanu, Ismaรซl Ferroukhi, Daniรจle Arbid, Nader Takmil Homayounโฆ).
Featured at Cinealma 2011 are perspectives on women and perspectives by women (The Source of Women, Voyage to Algiers, On the Edge, The First Beautiful Thingโฆ), pages of resurrected history (Free Men, Black Bread, My Land, The Jewel), questions of rites and cults (Heavenly Body, We Have a Pope, The Mosque, Footnote, The Rabbiโs Cat), and of course, evocations of the Arab Spring that continue to surprise us (No More Fear, 18 Daysโฆ).
Music plays a prominent role in this palette, whether it paces the narrative or is the subject itself (The Fifth String, Microphone, Flamenco, Flamenco).
The partnerships forged with the festivals of Rome, Carthage, Tangier, and Tetouan allow us to enrich and diversify the schedule while bringing international recognition to our festival โ this 6th edition shines a spotlight on Moroccan cinema with 6 films representing the vitality and innovation of Moroccan production.
From Southern Europe, boldness and originality are present with a new generation of Spanish and Italian filmmakers: the likes of Agusti Vila and Villaronga, Alice Rohrwacher, or Andrรฉ Molaioli, who with his The Jewel, which will flood screens in spring 2012, strikes at the heart of the predatory financial system responsible for the crises shaking the planet.
As every year, Cinรฉalma, faithful to its values of solidarity, will donate part of the proceeds to the association Aide Sans Fin Ni Faim, which supports disadvantaged children in Madagascar. (https://aidesansfaim.coreis.fr/).
Co-organized by the City of Carros and the Cinรฉactions association in partnership with the TransMediterranean Festival, with the support of the PACA Region, the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, ACSE, Malongo, and many other partners, CINEALMA is a wide-open door to our Mediterranean, its peoples, its cultures, and its legendary conviviality.
