Festival “Nice Tour de Scènes”

Latest News

Soon it will have been six months since a first assessment of the distribution of contemporary music in Nice was made during the first edition of “Nice Tour de Scènes.” Six months during which grievances were voiced, proposals made, but above all, during which the same shortcomings, criticized during the first edition of the festival, continued to hinder local artistic and sociocultural development.

However, everyone in Nice has been able to witness the musical excitement that marked the year 2006: new events, new audiences, new musical trends. Associative initiatives such as the Nice Tour de Scènes Festival 2006, Nu-Ziq, concerts at the Théâtre de verdure and the 700-seat hall at Nikaïa, as well as the Plages Electroniques in Cannes, were successful both with the public and the media. Private venues have mainly programmed groups and artists from the Nice area, proof of the existence of artistic and professional maturity.

Thus, the findings made in 2006, initially before the first edition of Nice Tour de Scènes, are still relevant. The Nice paradox, which suggests that there is an extraordinary cultural potential scandalously hindered by the lack of venues and distribution means (concert halls, sound and lighting equipment, support mechanisms for the distribution and promotion of contemporary music, etc.), remains as pronounced as ever.

Since March and the end of the first edition of the festival, the Municipality has revised its plans regarding the arrangement of Halle Spada: within a few years, we will find there an auditorium originally planned, as well as a multipurpose hall for live performances and concerts. Dialogue with institutions is thus maintained, but we remain focused on our goal: the establishment of a complex dedicated to contemporary music, managed jointly between institutions and the local associative network.

October will therefore be an opportunity to re-engage the stakeholders of Contemporary Music for a second “Tour de Scènes.” A “Tour 2 Scènes” with distinctly local colors, to showcase the quality and diversity of a Nice scene on the path to professionalization. Scheduled groups, festival hosting venues, volunteers—all participate in the Festival in solidarity with the Collective’s claims, and because they too fight throughout the year for better distribution of Contemporary Music. The objective and framework for this second edition are therefore elsewhere, as this time it will be the “private” distribution venues (pubs, bars, …) hosting contemporary music from the Azure.

Thus, the name “Festival Nice Tour de Scènes” becomes the trademark of the Collective and the concrete expression of its cultural and civic commitment.
