Renamed the Festival of Storytelling and Words, this new 2012 edition will be rich in new events and will feature talented actors such as Richard Berry, Richard Bohringer, Irรจne Jacob, and Macha Meril. With their captivating voices, these renowned readers will bring great literary texts to life.
The program also includes a performance in sign language to create a bridge between deaf and hearing audiences to share the same stories.
On Sunday, July 15, in Saint Martin de Vรฉsubie starting from 8:30 PM, the Festival of Storytelling and Words will be opened by Mr. Richard Berry, in the presence of Mr. Eric Ciotti, President of the General Council, and Gaston Franco, Member of the European Parliament, Regional Councilor of PACA, and Mayor of Saint Martin Vรฉsubie.
An exceptional opening night
At 5 PM, under the tent in the schoolyard, the Signes Association will present its show “Why the Hare…,” accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing.
At 6:15 PM, “The Circle of Tonin” by Catherine Bouin and Antonin Steve accompanied by the vocal and instrumental group Aurea.
Starting from 8:30 PM, Richard Berry will offer a reading of an excerpt from “Heart of Darkness” by Joseph Conrad. This book, which narrates the journey of a boat going up a river in the heart of Black Africa, notably inspired Apocalypse Now, the famous film by Francis Ford Coppola.
A week that invites you to travel
From July 15 to 22, 18 storytellers will travel through the villages of the Alpes-Maritimes, meeting young and old audiences. With their traditional tales, they will transport the public from Russia to Venezuela, passing through Mauritania.
Eric Ciotti wished to dedicate this Festival of Storytelling and Words to Raoul Mille, a great name in French literature and from the Alpes-Maritimes, who left us on June 14th. He had introduced, at the heart of the “Soirรฉes estivales,” “The Writers’ Nights,” a literary promenade through the communities of the department.
