Last night, Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, kicked off the grand light celebration at the Water Mirror of the Promenade du Paillon.
The theme of the “Belle Epoque” was chosen for the 2014 festivities, a culturally, entertainment, and invention-rich era with numerous discoveries accompanied by the prestige of the intellectual world and an artistic and musical explosion (Impressionism, Cubism, Fauvism…).
The luminous wonder will last until Sunday, January 4, 2015.
Dreamlike decorations, 3D light sculptures… from Place Masséna to Place Garibaldi, and across the city districts, the nighttime strolls will leave no one indifferent.
Among the traditional motifs decorating the streets and squares and the light sculptures (Santa Claus opposite Lenval Hospital, hot air balloons, and other Belle Epoque arabesques), two new installations are expected to particularly catch the attention on the Promenade du Paillon and Place Masséna.
The stars of Nice 2014 illuminations?
The gold medal undoubtedly goes to the reconstituted Casino Jetée Promenade and the Christmas ball pyramids.
Note that on either side of the fountain of the sun at Place Masséna, two tall pyramids of Christmas balls have also been installed.
A few figures to better explain this “grandeur”:
780 traditional motifs, 120 light sculptures, 415 light curtains, 3,000 meters of light garland, 24 hot air balloons, 6 majestic bows, 7 arabesques, 140 illuminated palm trees, 4 pyramids measuring 4 meters by 4 meters
1 giant luminous Santa Claus opposite Lenval Hospital standing 8 meters tall.
4 luminous mailboxes 4 meters high.
3 bicycles to light the dynamic Christmas tree on Place Masséna.
